- Free zone (parc d'activites economiques) established 1993 on about 60 ha near Zarzis business port, benefiting from proximity to the Libyan market; hosts industrial activities, tax-free transactions and export-oriented services (reported ~44 companies from 12 countries). Companies established in Tunisia's free-trade zones are exempt from taxes and customs duties; general regime: income/corporate tax exemption for the first 10 years after first export (then 50% reduction on export profits), full customs-duty exemption on imported raw materials/goods/equipment, freedom of profit transfer and repatriation of invested capital, and a 20% flat tax on foreign employees' gross remuneration. Entities qualify as non-resident if at least 66% of capital is held by non-residents/foreigners importing foreign currency.
