- Romania operates six free trade zones, primarily located on the Danube River or near the Black Sea: Sulina, Constanta-Sud Agigea, Galati, Braila, Curtici-Arad, and Giurgiu. They offer customs and value added tax (VAT) advantages for qualifying activities; goods placed within these areas are free of import duties, VAT and other import charges. Each zone is run by an administrator responsible for commercial activities within the zone. Sulina is suited to manufacturing and services; Giurgiu covers ~160 ha; Curtici-Arad (~90 ha) is the only free zone in western Romania.
